I find myself diving deeper into the world of formats. I have learned about .jpg and .psds and .pct or .png or .bmp but now I face a new problem: what are these .mov, .avi, and .wmv, and which should I choose. I used to think it depends on what computer system I use: .mov for Macs and .avi and .wmv for Windows.
However, I found it was a misunderstanding after I start to compress and upload video files. I’ve used Episode, Streamclip, Quicktime, Turbo and Compressor to compress video files so far, and I found the newly compressed files can be any type of file I can image. .Mov, .avi, and .wmv are just formats to pack data, and what format I use to compress, depends on how I want to watch them, control them, or the quality level needed.
I know it must be common sense to many people, but for me it’s just like I discover something new in the rocket science.
