Pixar creates some of the most beloved animated movies. Everyone from the youngest of kids to their grandparents loves Pixar movies. But what makes Pixar movies so amazing and unique? It’s the way they approach the end of the film.

Disney movies always give you the ending that you want.

In Frozen Anna and Elsa are living happily in Arendelle with Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven. In Aladdin Jasmine and Aladdin end up together, and Genie is set free. In Hercules Megara and Hercules live and Hercules gets to be the hero that he’s always wanted to be. These movie endings are satisfying. Everyone loves to see a movie end the way they want it to, but Pixar takes a different approach.

The Ending you Need

Pixar doesn’t give you the ending that you want, but the ending that you need to see. In Toy Story 3 the toys don’t go to college with Andy; even though we were all rooting for that throughout the movie. The toys find a new home with Bonnie. A home where they will be loved and played with everyday. This ending is meant to show people that it’s okay to move on. It might not always be the easiest thing to do, and it might not be what you want. However, it’s what you need. This is a common theme throughout all of the Pixar animated films. In Up Carl doesn’t live the rest of his life at Paradise falls, but he instead finds a new friend in Russell. In Onward, Ian doesn’t meet his dad. Instead he realizes that his older brother has been the best role model and pseudo father he could’ve asked for. These endings may not have been exactly what you wanted to see, but they’re what needed to happen.

Just a little Bit Easier

Pixar’s approach to the end of their films is something that we could all learn from. Life may not always give us what we want. We might not get that job or get to go to that party, but maybe instead we’ll get what we need. I know life doesn’t always work out, but maybe if we looked at it more like the ending of a Pixar movie, it’ll be just a little bit easier.
