Changing it up
How are you planning on spending your Easter this year? Will you carry on family traditions like painting eggs and the annual Easter egg hunt, or try something new? Perhaps spice it up with an augmented reality Easter egg hunt for change.
You probably thought the kids would eventually stop fighting over the plastic egg with the twenty-dollar bill in it, but they won’t. Maybe you scheduled a time to fill the hundreds of eggs, but then you realize all that time would equal a well-deserved nap and so you do that instead. No big deal, because with augmented reality Easter egg hunts all you need is a mobile device to create an interactive and exciting hunt without all the extra hassle.
App Options
Augmented Reality, Easter egg hunt applications, are available for both iPhones and Androids. Though each mobile phone maker may offer different apps, each can provide a thrilling hunt. Each app provides various features to make their hunting experience unique and entertaining. Features that are present within some of these apps are the option to hide and find the eggs, while others will even have more challenges within the hunts as well. An example of an app that offers challenges within the egg hunts is the app, “Tibb AR”. The challenges that Tibb AR includes within their hunt are catching eggs for extra points, avoiding rotten eggs that can take away from health and dodging the rabbit so he can’t throw rotten eggs onto your screen.
Easy, Peasy
With the power of Augmented Reality and mobile devices, all the users must do is scan the room or space using the camera within their application of choice open and they will be able to begin finding and collecting the Easter eggs all around them. Easy for the kids to use and loved by parents as all the preparation for the big Easter egg hunts is no longer needed. Relax, and let the kids do all the work.
A Familiar Player
These augmented reality applications to bring a new kind of excitement to Easter, but they aren’t the only ones creating a unique and un-traditional element to the holiday. Snapchat, a multimedia messaging app has been adding features to their apps such as implementations of various apps like Shazam and Amazon and their latest update, games! Though the games may be new, last year in 2018 Snapchat used Augmented Reality on a feature called “Snap Maps.” Snapchat claimed this as The Great Snapchat Egg Hunt! On Easter 1 million virtual Easter eggs were laid out all over the snap map (throughout the United States and Canada) which could be found, collected, and then awarded points. (Similar to the mobile game, Pokémon GO.) The user would see the egg on their Snap Map and then physically go to the location where the virtual egg was to retrieve it and be awarded points. There is still no word on if Snapchat will be relaunching their Great Snapchat Egg Hunt for Easter 2019.
AR’s Newest Egg Hunters
While wondering what Snapchat will have in store for the Easter holiday, there is another big player in the AR egg hunt participating companies which is the movie theater, Regal Cinemas.
A Regal Easter
If you take egg hunts very seriously and want to receive real prizes for the eggs you find, then you’ll love what Regal Cinemas is doing in honor of Easter 2019. Running from April 15 until April 21, the movie theater chain will be implementing an Augmented Reality Easter egg hunt. To participate, you must have Regal’s mobile app. Upon downloading and opening the app, participants will go to the camera in the app and can begin scanning movie posters around the theater. An egg will appear on select movie posters, when collected, your prize will be revealed. The awards that Regal is offering are things such as free popcorn, bonus Regal Crown Club credits, and 25% off a credit order in the Regal RewardCenter. So not only do you get bragging rights if you get the most eggs, you get bragging rights of winning awesome prizes!
Holiday Evolution
So maybe at the beginning of this blog, you thought new traditions wouldn’t happen, but now at the end of the blog, you’re thinking “WOW AR Easter egg hunts are cool!! We should absolutely try this!!!” Or maybe not, but the one thing to remember is that the new realities, both virtual and augmented are quickly implementing themselves into not only our everyday activities but our jobs as well. It just makes sense that augmented and virtual reality features would be finding their way into how we celebrate our holidays.
