Snapchat and Amazon form a Powerful Partnership

With over 190 million daily active users, Snapchat is one of the biggest and most used social media platforms. Over the past few years, we have seen them add features from the primary filters to incorporating music within the screens allowing artists to partner with them as a way to alert fans of new music. Ed Sheeran partnered with Snapchat using one of his new songs in a snapchat filter.  This allowed Sheeran to reach a larger audience outside of just his regular fanbase to hear his new music. Another artist who did this was Sage the Gemini with the release of his song, “Now and Later.”

Snapchat partners with Shazam

Shazam Application

In 2016, Snapchat partnered with Shazam, an app that allows you to identify music, movies and more by playing a sample of the song, video, etc. and using the microphone on the device. This new feature allows Snapchat app users to simply hold their finger on the camera screen while it listens to the short clip being played. An icon will then appear telling you the song that’s trying to be identified. Because of these features, Snapchat has been considered to “change the music industry.” Allowing artists to share new music in a new creative way, as well as allowing users to find new music without even leaving the app, it seems like they couldn’t do better in the music area. Though in 2019 their new partnership is going to take their app to a new level.

Shifting Focus

Shifting their focus from the music aspects, Snapchat’s newest partnership will be with Amazon. This new feature will allow users to buy items on Amazon through the Snapchat app. Users will be able to scan the barcode or object with the Snapchat camera and then if the product is available on Amazon, a box icon will appear that allows users to review the product and even buy it. Without even leaving the app. This is going to do amazing things for Amazon, considering they have never really been considered successful with their “mobile options” such as their standalone app. This partnership is a power move for both companies.

The Visual Search Tool

This new “visual search tool” that will be incorporated into their application will allow consumers to shop in a new and easy way. As soon as you open the Snapchat app, the camera is what is on the screen, and with that, you take a quick picture of the item that you are interested in. As Snapchat appeals to a younger audience because of their fun, features this may be a door opener for them to attract a new and perhaps older crowd. Seems almost effortless, which in this day in age is what people look for any way they can get it.

Whether its college students that are looking for decorations for their dorms, parents looking for kitchen supplies or even kids making their Christmas lists, people of all ages can benefit from this feature in different ways. Though this new feature is not released yet, it will sure to be a big hit. Way to go on this power move, Snapchat!
