D.C. (Alexandria) is hands down the most humid part of the U.S. I’ve ever had the pleasure of living/working in. I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to that 15 minute walk from the Metro station, but as i’ve been told more than once, it’s just June…the heat and humidity will only get worse. My name is Tyler J. Rouse. I’m from North Carolina– a town called Winterville to be exact. I go to school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am a Tar Heel! (Just look us up in [select] mainstream news sources in the past week thanks to former UNC basketball player Rashad McCants).

V and Laura found and recruited me to be their new summer intern through my summer program TFAS (The Fund for American Studies). And speaking of TFAS, I was an hour late to my first night class (along with an internship, the program provides us with two courses taken during the summer) because I got mixed up with the different metros. I was riding metros for two hours…and I was exhausted by the time I got to class. The class is three hours by the way. Yesterday after work I was able to go to a private event hosted by the National Park Trust where they awarded this year’s Bruce F. Vento Public Service Award to Senator Ron Wyden. It was a nice event. Apart from the NPT speakers, it also included two elementary school children of the Buddy Bison School Program who spoke about their experiences touring the parks and engaging in learning activities. The food was BOMB because it was catered by Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant. I have to get the hang of networking in group settings like that. But last night was just a trial run.

But anyway, this is only my third day of work and I already know I’m gonna love it here with these women. Between listening to Olivia and V enthuse about the latest cell phone apps, weight loss, and men; watching Laura create voiceovers for a client’s project; and admiring the timelessness of the building’s architecture, RedEye Post is the place for me.

Things Accomplished This Week:

  • Met people in and around the office
  • Started research on Red Eye clientele
  • Copied CDs and made labels
  • Shipped off a package to a client
  • Went to my first company after-work event
  • Drafted a “Summer Goals” list
  • Wrote the first Intern Blog post of the summer

All of these blogs won’t be this long…promise. With Laura’s suggestion, I’ll be posting up some vlogs as well, so stay tuned!
