If a picture is worth a thousand words, then how much a video worth? – The answer, 1.8million.

Social media is used by many people all over the world. People use it to connect, companies use it to promote their business, organizations use it to spread
awareness, and much more. But social media has grown since it first can to the scene. People use to be able to chat, share statuses, and post picture. Then people were able to share videos across various social media platforms. Now the use of videos is being incorporated now more than ever in our lives with the use of social media. There are social media platforms created strictly for the use of video sharing such as Vine and TikTok (formerly known as musically). Other social media platforms such as Snapchat and Instagram, while they are used for picture sharing, are also known for being able to share video content. In fact, Instagram has two different video sharing features which are IGTV and Reels.

Why is Video Sharing Growing?

The real question is why? Why has video sharing become more prevalent as time goes on? My answer, video sharing makes people feel more connected than picture post. When you share a video, people are able to get a glimpse into your life. Videos often make people more engaged while on social media. When scrolling down your timeline it is so easy to get a glimpse of a photo and keep scrolling past it. But the use of visuals and audio aids on the other hand attracts attention and increases engagement. You can’t automatically see the content of a video like you can a photo. Since you can’t atomically see a video you are more likely to click on it and watch it in order to see what it is about. Also, we live in a time where we like everything to be fast and accessible quickly. Reading takes longer than watching, so if there was two post about the same topic but one was long and written out and the other was a video chances are people would watch the video because it’s quicker and more enticing.

The Future of Video Sharing

Our brains are being wired into this digital media age where if you didn’t post it, it didn’t happen. Capturing the moment is seeming to become more popular than living in the moment.  Video has the power to become the medium of social media. With live videos becoming more popular and brands using videos to attract consumers video sharing is all but slowing down. The shift into video content is growing and people are in awe of being able to see into each other’s person’s lives. Video is a powerful source that will continue to expand.
