Stella was the talk around town earlier this week and her arrival was highly anticipated. Stella was this year’s big snowstorm which swept the Northeast this past Monday night into Tuesday.

Stella was expected to pound our National’s Capital and surrounding areas with potential snowfall rates of 1 to 4 inches per hour possible at times during the height of the storm. As early as Sunday, March 12th a Winter Storm Warning was in effect!

Schools and businesses had all begun talking and making calls Monday, to be closed on Tuesday before Stella had even made an appearance. Instead, winter storm Stella did not live up to the hype and brought 2-4 inches total of sloppy snow to the area. She still created a bit of a morning mix up around town resulting in office delays, an altered metro line schedule, crippling air travel, and most of all a SNOW DAY!

Here at RedEye we are conscientious of our client’s deadlines if our clients need it done we are on the job but we got lucky with this past storm and got to take a snow day too!

…So with that being said how did you spend your snowy day in the District? Did you drink hot coco and watch movies? Catch up on some Netflix? Build a Snowman? Read a good book? Go sledding? Or rather get a head in some work and projects?

As a native to the D.C. area, I have compiled a list of fun things to do on your next snow day in the city! (Activities all depend on how intense the storm may be)

1. Make a visit to Abraham Lincoln or any other monuments on the National Mall, while walking the mall build a snowman! End the afternoon with a fun ice-skating session at the National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Garden Ice Rink, open until mid-March.

2. Be Part of a Gigantic Snowball Fight…Check out the ‘Washington DC Snowball Fight Association’s’  Facebook page to see when the next showdown will be. It was a brutal battle at  DuPont Circle this past Tuesday!

3. Dive into some much needed retail therapy!…Check out what is open at Pentagon City Mall, Tyson’s Corner or walk the streets and window shop in Georgetown.

4. Check out the local bars that are open and see if there’s any snowstorm specials on the board or just hit your favorite Brunch or Happy Hour!…One of our favorite Brunch spots is Founding Farmers

5. Want to spend your snow day doing something a little bit more traditional? Well grab a thermos of hot coco, a sled and hit some of our favorite spots:

  • Capitol Hill– may not be the steepest sledding hill in the District but it’s definitely the most scenic
  • Rock Creek Park while the entire park is beautiful during a snow-storm, secluded ‘P Street Beach’ {off 23rd and P Streets} features an especially good sledding hill
  • George Washington Masonic Memorial -It’s not technically in the District but no discussion of great sledding in D.C. would be complete without including Alexandria’s George Washington Masonic Memorial. Even small granite markers erected two years can’t stop snow revelers. This is one of our favorites located just down the road from RedEye!

6. Lastly and most importantly, we suggest the best thing to do on a snow day here in the District is grab some hot tea, coco, or coffee, snuggle under a fuzzy blanket and hop online and check out our new website… www.redeyepost.tv
