Living in the DC area allows you to take advantage of many contest and festivals. If you are interested in filmmaking or screenwriting then you will be thrilled about the upcoming “DC Shorts Film Festival” this fall. Unfortunately the submission dates ended the first week of June but, tickets for the festival are now on sale. I’m not sure about anyone else but I always notice submission dates after they had already ended. If you are a forgetful person then you should make note of all of the amazing events this summer and keep it in a safe place!

Don’t worry about missing one or two events; there is still plenty to do at the festival! During the 10-day event span you can enjoy great films, food, workshops, guest speakers and, even after parties. If you are still unsure about going to the festival, just wait one minute — on the DC Shorts website you can access every past winning film for free. Past winner “Yearbook” directed and created by Bernardo Britto was recognized by many other film festivals including the Cleveland International Film Festival. This simplistic animation was best awarded for its humorous outlook on a tragic situation like portrayed in the 6-minute film. Britto was also recognized for being apart of the “25 new faces of independent film” category on   “Filmmakermagazine.”      Unknown

As the date gets closer and closer the DC shorts twitter page will be updating everyone with great after party events and gatherings. All films will be viewed in the city of Washington DC; specific venue information will be distributed closer to the dates. If you have any questions regarding the venue, ticket purchase, and time you can email them at info@dcshorts.com.

If you still feel disappointed about missing the submission date do not worry, just use that time to network yourself and your work. The great thing about the DC area is the wonderful networking opportunities. Take advantage of it!
