During my first week I went to my first company after-work event and have to I admit that it was a little different from what I though it was going to be. I arrived to the J.W. Marriot Hotel to hear a symposium about Self-Provisioning for Global Media Networks sponsored by the companies, CEI, Net Insight & ScheduALL, sounds so approachable and like a fun evening don’t you think? But it turns out that the event was full of technical terms and ideas way above where my education and English understanding could support. AKA: lots of engineer stuff. So, as you can imagine I was a LITTLE lost in the conference. But I want to try and make some sense of what I did learn and maybe it will help you.
From what I understood ScheduALL and Net Insight have teamed together to promote their new product The Switch which basically is SchedulALL’s software working with Net Insight’s hardware to allow you to make content available anywhere.
How does it work? Let’s suppose that you have a client in London but your office is in DC. Once you have their product (video or image) done, you use the software to send it to them. Yeah…that doesn’t sound a big thing right? Well let me put it this way. ScheduALL updates and send immediately any image or video (and when I say immediately I mean milliseconds) to your clients. This platform is composed by an antenna, satellite and fiber, IRDs and much more technical and engineering materials that makes this software such an amazing tool that I wish I could understand! Why do I think is it necessary for a broadcasting company? This little black box increases efficiency and eliminates mistakes when it comes to network transmissions. One of the things that caught my attention is that it has a performance monitor to get a view of what is going on with the transmissions. In few words, you can see the status transmission either if is OK, in progress, failed) so if a client calls you to claim that he didn’t get it! You will know exactly what happened with the transmission. This platform is friendly and adapted for you. It allows you to personalized it with your logo company and also adds important information such as your upcoming events, promotions, etc. At the same time you can put nicknames to your clients.
We at RedEye might not need these products now – but as my boss says seeing what is coming in the broadcast world is a little like watching the future. In 5 years it may be a product we will be using and want to know about. Technology is changing so fast it is important to find out all the new products coming our way so we know when to jump in.
I believe this conference was quite interesting given the fact that I wasn’t familiar with any type of network transmission platforms, and I think that attending to this kind of conferences is always good a way to be update with the technology that RedEye could use as a tool in the future. At the end of the conference CEI invited all the guests (including me) to have delicious canapes and really good drinks. In fact, during the snacks session I had a lot of fun chatting with people from the various companies. And they did their best to help me make sense of this all. Thank you CEI, ScheduALL & Net Insight!
